Introduction on the Data Science and Big Data Technology Collaborative Undergraduate Programs

Zhengzhou University of Light Industry and Griffith University of Australia have conducted extensive cooperation in teaching, research and student exchange since 2001, and have established a regular exchange system of teaching and research personnel.The program of Data Science and Big Data Technology was approved by the Henan Provincial government and enrolled its first students in 2018.

The School of Information and Communication Technology of GU is a 5-star school, ranking among the top 3% in the world, and among the top four in Australia in terms of teaching quality. The school has world-class faculty teams, scientific researchers and cutting-edge teaching facilities. It has Big Data Visualization Laboratories, virtual reality, augmented reality, gamification and robotics laboratories, and integrated and intelligent systems research platforms, providing students with a high-quality teaching environment.

The College of Computer and Communication Engineering of ZZULI has a team of excellent teachers and is a Training Base for Skilled Talents in Short Supply in The Field of Computer Application and Software Technology. It has a number of provincial scientific research platforms, such as Henan Key Laboratory of Food Safety Data Intelligence, Henan Public Safety Data Fusion and Intelligent Service Engineering Technology Research Center, Henan International Joint Laboratory of Big Data Analysis Technology, etc.

The joint collaborative program combines the advantages of the resources and professional characteristics of both parties, offering students with world-class education. The course system of the program embodies the characteristics of international training objectives, cutting-edge teaching contents, autonomous learning methods and practical teaching process. The course plans of the program are jointly designed by ZZULI and GU. It vigorously introduces core professional courses and cutting-edge courses from GU and retains some basic courses and best courses of ZZULI. We actively carry out teaching reform and teaching research, adopt a variety of teaching methods and models, so that students can become active in the learning process. We introduce phased and procedural test means, cultivating students' independent thinking ability, knowledgeapplication ability and team cooperation consciousness.

The aim of Data Science and Big Data Technology Program is to enable students to understand the basic theory of data science, be familiar with the related theory, knowledge, skills and methods of big data acquisition, processing, analysis and application, have the ability to engage in large data analysis, processing, mining, data visualization, large system integration, management and maintenance. The students will become international senior professionals with international vision and good foreign language skills. Graduates will be qualified for a variety of careers in many areas such as commerce, industry, corporate IT, government or private consulting. Graduates may find a job as a systems analyst, software developer, IT support and client services officer, database and systems administrator, technical writer, web developer, sales representative for IT vendors, educator or researcher.
